If this question has been posted before, I apologize for a repeat on it. If not, who better than to ask people like you who enjoy their vehicles so much they are in a forum like this. So, what is your opinion on adding a fuel additive to a new car?
I looked at a YouTube video of 13 additives that work and 5 to avoid. I’ll post the link. After watching this, Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner and 505CRF Fuel System Treatment are two that I am strongly considering, however the 505 is very expensive.
Here is the video, I am looking forward to reading your opinions and experiences.
I agree that the use of Top Tier gas and the correct spec/viscosity oil makes additives unnecessary in new/new-ish vehicles. However, I think it’s interesting that the Lexus maintenance schedule calls for the use of fuel system cleaner at certain mileage intervals–but only in Hawaii.
Use quality gas and oil. Change the oil earlier than recommended. Don’t bother with oil additives. Maybe a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank every 10 or 20 fill-ups can’t hurt.
If your car has direct injection only and not direct and indirect injection, an intake cleaning every 2nd or 3rd oil change will help avoid the performance loss from dirty valves.
Yes. And for those who keep saying an intake service isn’t needed, here’s a picture of intake valves at approx 80,000 miles that have never been serviced.
